Who am I?

I guess I would start from the beginning, and the beginning for me was the place I was born. It all started in the winter of 1988, Moscow, Russia. I spent my first two years in Russia with my parents and older brother of course. We immigrated to Israel in the beginning of 1990. What was supposed to be a temporary stay in a small town called Hadera became very permanent so much that my parents are still there. The town is so small that everybody know each other, and if by any chance they don’t they know someone who does. I went to public schools, and something was always missing. We didn’t really have art classes or anything similar so my parents sent me to after school classes like pottery and doll making. By the time I got to the sixth grade I knew what I love and want to do in the future. I think a big part of my decision was the influence my dad had on me. Since we were immigrants we didn’t have enough money to buy things we needed, so my dad was constantly building furniture pieces for our home. I don’t think I ever saw a professional like a plumber or electrician come to fix something, because my dad was always doing everything by him self, with my help obviously. I graduated from high school in 2006, and recruited to the Israeli defense army the same year since it is mandatory in Israel. Because of medical reasons I was released prior to the time I had to serve. I didn’t know what to do with myself, I knew I wanted to be a designer but everything was so sudden, all my life I had institutions I was belonged to. And now I was a free bird, with too many options. I knew I can’t be a designer in Israel since it’s a small country that already has a lot of straggling professionals in the same area. I decided to look for a place to go too in USA and what better place there than NYC the fashion capital of the world. FIT – Fashion Institute of Technology was my choice. It is both world renounced institute and cheap enough for me to attend. Currently I am indeed attending FIT.

This blog will tell my story from past to future, from failure to success, from being just me to becoming a world recognized Interior Designer. Remember this name ELINA PINIS.
